5 Tips for When You’ve No Time to Scrapbook

May 5, 2007 by Genie Balfour

clockHere are 5 Tips for when you don’t have time to , because your time is very precious. There are a finite number of hours in each day and sometimes we just can’t fit everything we want to do into those precious few hours.

So I won’t waste your time padding out this post!

When you’ve no time for , there are basically two options open to you: make it yourself quickly, in which case you want products that allow you to get the job done fast; or hand the whole project over and have someone else do it all for you.

Tip # 1: Scrapbooking for Others

There is a growing industry out there ready to make your scrapbook for you. Scrapbooking for Others is a relatively new career opportunity. You will find many scrapbook addicts out there just waiting for the opportunity to turn their hobby into a business and all your memorabilia into the scrapbook of your dreams. See reporters-turned-scrapbookers.

When someone else makes your scrapbook there are a couple of options to bear in mind. Firstly you can give them everything - photos, story, memorabilia like tickets, programs, etc. and they make the complete scrapbook. Or you can have the pages made and you slot in the photos and souvenirs yourself.

Check your local scrapbook store to see who does it in your area, or you can search online or try yellow pages. Choose your artist carefully as tastes vary widely, and you don’t want to find you’ve wasted your money on something you don’t like.

Tip # 2: Multiple Photo Layouts

hotpmanyphotoscardsShaunaA scrapbook layout does not have to contain only one photo. You can make layouts with as many as you can fit in one page. Style themes could include using a film strip layout; make a wall with small photos; place photo tiles around your page or main photo; or a checkerboard.

In this great example, Shauna Berglund-Immel at Hot Off The Press used nine equal-sized photo ’tiles’ to give a taste of different aspects of a vacation by the ocean.

Becky Higgins at Creating Keepsakes has sketches for multiple photo layouts for 10 photos or more. The added advantage of using a sketch is it jump starts your ideas; you’ve got something to work to without wasting time wondering where to put your elements. This will save a lot of time.

Tip # 3: Ready to use Products

Try a product that’s made to help you get the job done quickly like ‘Finished in a Flash’ from Hot Off The Press. These are books of themed page kits with themes like ‘At the Beach’, ‘In the Kitchen’, ‘My Girl’, ‘My Boy’, ‘My Dog’. There are eight themes in the series. You can also get ‘Almost Done Page Kits’ and ‘Busy Scrappers Solutions’ also from Hot Off The Press. These are available at Joann.com

Tip # 4: Computer Scrapbooking
