Last Minute Christmas Gifts with Scrapbook Papers

December 18, 2007 by Genie Balfour

Scrapbook papers are so versatile you can even use them to make last minute Christmas gifts.

This is a Sarabinder CD holder from Hot Off The Press decorated on this occasion with paper from Colorbok. It looks like a lot of work has gone into this but the paper comes as you see it (but don’t tell that to my brother who’s getting it for Christmas!)

With just a few more days till Christmas look no farther than Sarabinders for great gift ideas. They are so simple to decorate. It will only take about an hour to transform each simple hardboard, 6-ring binder into a great Christmas gift, so you’ve still got time!

Should you run out of time to make them yourself then give the naked Sarabinder and one of a Creative Paper Pack as a gift and the recipient can have the fun of making it his/herself.

…….

For these examples I used an ink pad or acrylic paint, both of which dry very quickly so I was able to get each one done in no time at all.

The distressed CD holder above (with the back showing here) was inked on the spine, and around the front and back edges leaving the centre un-inked. This was covered with paper cut to about one quarter inch smaller all round. I inked the edges of the paper then used a stick adhesive and attached one to the front and one to the back.

I then attached a punch-out label to which I adhered two alpha tiles and tiny ‘jewel’ circles.

Inside was left natural and untreated. The envelopes that hold the CDs could be decorated too but I chose not to this time. (See below for alternate styling.)

…….

The papers used in the next two Sarabinders are from HOTP’s Use Em For Anything pastel papers.

I love HOTP paper books because the clever people there have done all the hard work matching and co-ordinating the papers that work together and all I have to do is open the book and choose the papers.

To make this and the green CD holder I covered the inside and outside with acrylic paint, getting as close as I could to the metal rings without actually getting paint on to the mechanism. It was very easy to use and I was surprised how quickly it dried.

On the outside you can choose whether you cover the whole front and back or only about half an inch round the edges as on the one above. This center part will be covered with paper again so you will not see any unpainted areas.

On this occasion I decorated the dividers as seen here. Simply a slice of matching or co-ordinating paper, inked at the edges; a title printed on the computer with torn and chalked edges; a few paper flowers with sparkly center dots and a mini tag punch.

It’s that simple.

……

Finally, another CD holder using Hot Off The Press Use Em for Anything papers and cut outs from the citrus Creative Paper Pack. The chipboard letters are from Heidi Swapp, painted to co-ordinate.

Some other ideas for using Sarabinders include: a recipe book; a renovation project management journal; a prayer journal; address book; a Christmas management tool with your favorite recipes, lists (party food, guests, cards, etc) and addresses, etc; a diet journal (for succeeding with that New Year resolution!); a scrapbook planner; and anything else you can imagine!

You will find these products in your local scrapbook store and at Hot Off The Press. Tell them you saw this article on ScrapbookingGems dot com and it inspired you to try out their products. Thanks.

That’s it then, three simple last minute Christmas gifts using scrapbook papers and Sarabinders from Hot Off The Press, plus a variety of other suggestions for using them. Have fun trying the out, and let us know what you think. Happy Christmas.
