National Scrapbooking Day Event Resounding Success!

Success SBW07 smallWith National Scrapbooking Day long past you may wonder why am I writing a post about it now?

The answer is simple: Because the official day clashed with another local event, and wanting to keep it on a Saturday, we decided to run ours a week late. So we have just had it, and it was a resounding success!

With an age range spanning forty plus years, coffee pot at the ready, one husband on standby in case of technical hitches, and a selection of scrapbook supplies from Hot Off The Press, K & Co, X-cut, Sugarloaf, Papermania and many others, our belated National Scrapbooking Day class got off the ground.

A special thank you to Ken who did all the scanning for us while everyone got on with choosing papers and embellishments and designing layouts.

What’s it all about?

No one had done any scrapbooking before, and didn’t know quite what to expect.

"What can you put in a scrapbook?" was the repeated question. "Photos of family, friends, pets, travel … anything you like," the answer.

"I’ve got some beautiful cards I’ve been sent by friends. Can I use them?" Edna asked.

"I love poetry," said Valerie. "Can I use poems or words from songs?" Concentration SBW09 small

Edna’s friend, Rena, arrived with some beautiful postcards of the Lakes, and Morag wanted to make a collage of family photos as a gift for her husband whose birthday was the following day. Family wedding photos, beautiful plants, and much loved pets were included too.

Getting to work

After a brief talk and demonstration everyone set to work.

Hard at work SBW08 smallLots of thought, discussion and concentration went into the decisions and choice of materials. Ideas changed and developed. Everyone worked hard and had great fun into the bargain. So much so, that Edna went home and searched the house to see what she could find to use, then made two more layouts that evening! LOL

Our instructor had a busy time showing everyone what to do and giving advice and direction, finishing the day with sore feet and backache – nothing a good night’s rest wouldn’t cure!

It’s not only illness or emails that can be viral: everyone so enjoyed themselves they want to do it again. They’ve been talking about it to others, and those who couldn’t make this meeting want to come next time. So the plan is to have at least one, and perhaps two evening sessions a week, for the next month or so while the evenings are so light. And if the enthusiasm continues we may plan a regular crop in the fall and invite more friends.

The moral of the story? You don’t have to do a thing when everyone else is doing it! You can invite your friends round anytime it’s convenient to show them how to scrapbook! And, if they come, they’ll probably love it!
