Reasons to Scrapbook: Improve your Memory

Little Miss ScatterbrainScrapbook it to remember it! Is this one of your reasons to scrapbook? Don’t be like Little Miss Scatterbrain who forgets everything.

.

I know I’m not the only one who forgets things. My husband used to say he didn’t need a memory: he had a diary, a wife and a secretary! lol

Ellie can still remember what her son wanted for one particular Christmas. She’d been hearing about using silly pictures as a memory aid. She imagined the items he wanted: a computer; a saxophone that, in her imagination, she leaned nonchalantly against the computer; £2000 overflowing the u-shaped end of the sax yet somehow not blowing away in the breeze; all gliding down a river on the surf board that was also on his list. “David always had expensive taste!” she said, “and rarely got what he wanted!” The memory hook worked however as she can still remember it fifteen years later.

Writing things down is a great help, too. I often write and re-write my grocery list before going out and I rarely have to refer to it in the store. When preparing a meal for friends, I never remember what I gave them last time unless I write it down.

Scrapbooking has both these elements to it. OK, you’re not necessarily trying to make a silly picture, but the creative combination works well to help the memory. And even if it doesn’t work for you, you will still have the words and pictures there in your scrap book to remind you!

Did you have a great vacation? Scrapbook it! What about the wonderful time spent with old friends you hadn’t seen for years? Scrapbook it before you forget it! “But it was so wonderful I’ll never forget it!” you say … you’ll not remember as much as you expect in six months’ times never mind ten or fifteen years down the line. It always happens. The only way to be sure you never forget the important details are to write them down.

In our busy lives, lighten the load on your memory: write your stories down and keep them with your photographs. Then you will remember exactly what happened, no matter how many years later, for you will have the story and the photo in the same place: your scrapbook.
