The power of a simple gift: a shoebox filled with small gifts sent with love to give joy & hope to children who would not otherwise receive a gift at Christmas.

It sometimes seems the needs in our world are never-ending. We are constantly bombarded in the news programs, newspapers and magazines with people suffering in one disaster after another, and my heart breaks for everyone of them. Much as I would love to be able to, as one individual I cannot help everyone - my resources are limited. I will do what I can, one at a time, and encourage you to do what you can, when and wherever you can so it.

I’ll give a class of Seniors their first scrapbooking lesson next week, and one of the questions I have to answer is: “What is the basic ‘tool-kit’ that a beginning scrap booker needs to get started? It seems that so many of the supplies cost a lot; especially if you are starting from scratch. I just have trouble determining what is essential to get a good start on my scrapbooking experience.”

So I’ll start the answer here, and maybe post some of the results of their efforts with minimal tools after the class.

Isabella was taking photos on the first day of the new school year before she knew about scrapbooking. Not every time, mark you, but certainly when her children started school or changed school and occasionally between times. “It was a lot easier when they were young,” she said. “Trying to go into school when they were teenagers was another matter!” she laughed. “So there are no classroom photos later.”

“My photos are not very exciting,” she added, “but they remind me of what the children looked like and what the school uniforms were like at each stage.”
