12 Tips for Scrapbooking your Graduate
June 18, 2007 by Genie Balfour
As you look at her in her graduation gown you may see your three-year-old, but she’s grown up now, Mama, and ready to fly high in the world! So we’ve compiled some handy tips for scrapbooking your graduate.
.
They are not in any order, just as they came to mind.
1. When choosing colors for your scrapbook, use colors that appeal to the graduate rather than your own favorite color scheme in your album.
2. Do you have a photo or a piece of work from the first day at school ? Include it!
3. School reports are great to include in scrapbooks, too – especially one that shows how much the graduate has improved throughout their school career. Children develop at different rates, so measure your child against herself rather than others. For example, in the days when you were tested and graded in class according to the results, Joyce was second from bottom in her very large fourth grade class. Without any special help or coaching, and in the same class of students, she was third in her grade five class. She laughs and says that was a fluke because she was never that well placed again. However it was a tremendous boost to her and she stayed in the top third of the class from then on.
4. Words/ideas that symbolize growth in body, mind & spirit, potential, fulfillment, continued/lifelong learning are typical [tag]graduation[/tag] scrapbook words along with such others as aspire – hope – dream – accomplish(ment) – love – pride – etc. Show your love and pride in your student with these up-building, encouraging words and ideas.
5. It’s typical to express thoughts and feelings in a scrapbook, so tell them what’s going through your mind as you watch them meet this significant stage in their life.
6. Unless you want a very busy [tag]scrapbooking[/tag] layout – perhaps to reflect your graduate’s busy year(s) – stick with a monochromatic scheme (which will work well in a mini album, too) or use only 2 or 3 colors
7. Scan your photos to black and white if colors clash – to keep a unified look to your album.
8. Keep it simple and uncluttered to allow the photos and memories to stand out .
9. Record the price of everyday items as a permanent reminder
10. Make a note of what happened in the graduate’s family that year
11. Include favorite things e.g. TV programs, books, food, etc.
12. And don’t forget the fashions of the era – you’ll all have a great laugh in years to come!
These are just a few tips for scrapbooking your graduate. Hope you find them helpful. I’m sure you’ll think of other things to add, too. Have fun!
We’ll be continuing the series …
